Not long ago me and the wife topped off the garden area with some bird houses. She likes having the birds around and hopefully with any luck we will get some birds. So, I made three bird houses and mounted them on top of 4"x4" posts. Our garden area is basically hazelnut (off-white), so everything was pre-painted by us before doing this. The houses were easy to build. They just have a 1"x2" frame... Read More

Time to add the finish layer to the bench seat. Normally, I would do this after painting but since this bench has ornate curves, that is difficult to do. Each board has been cut to fit. Otherwise, I would paint then stain the seat are and attach it after the fact. I had some #2 red oak left over from a job from years ago. I always thought oak flooring on a bench or chair would be nice. Well, here... Read More

Next, I'll build the framework for the seat. I'm using 1"x4" pine (It's what I had laying around), although this is what I'd use anyway. Since the front of the bench legs are pointing out slightly, I'll get my width measurement from the back where the legs are attached to the headboard. I can't remember off hand what my measurement was but I'll cut two boards at this length. After stapling the fi... Read More

About Me

Hello & Welcome to My name is John R. Sherwood and I hope to be able to help you today, tomorrow or in the future. I am a United States Navy Veteran, I was proud to serve my country and I am proud of all of those that have and currently do. While I was enlisted I was a builder (BU), stationed in Mississippi. I reside in Severance, CO, with my wife Angela and our daughter Rebecca. Our son Bret lives in Severance as well but he has left home and lives on his own now.

I decided to open up shop because I can do a lot of things and I'd like to bring them to you. I enjoy helping people, showing them new ideas or making their homes/lives better. I am 40 years old and my experience goes back to the beginning of high school when I joined a class called Building Trades. Lead by Mr. Kopasz, Building Trades focused on building every aspect of a home every year. I was in the program for my three years of high school and took part in the building process every year. While I learned a lot, it wasn't enough for me and after high school, I worked for a custom home builder. His name is Dan Gillis and we built two homes in the Camel Grove area located in Colorado Springs. The two homes were well into the millions and working on them was a lot of fun.

I only quit working for Dan after joining the Navy as a builder (BU). After some time in the Navy, I relocated back to Colorado Springs where I took a job working for a remodeling guy who's name is Ray Ballinger. I got all of my remodeling experience working with him and I've enjoyed that more than any other field in construction. I moved to Oklahoma City for some time and while there I thought I'd do some landscaping work, as that was the only field I had not worked in full time. I honestly never knew there was a certain way to cut grass that over time makes a real difference. My job title was not only yard maintenance but I took part in several complete landscaping jobs from start to finish. We do everything from just flowers to big garden displays complete with ponds or small waterfalls.

After returning to Colorado Springs in February of 2005, I bought a home and remodeled the entire thing. My kids took part in this with me even though they were 5 and 7 at the time. They were a lot of help and still talk about it today. I used this time for website research, coding, and development (I built, maintain and run my own website). This was at a time in life where I wanted something a little bit different and computers have always been an interest of mine. The family relocated to the Windsor/Severance area in the summer of 2014. My wife Angela has an established business in the trucking industry since my kids are older or have left home, I thought I'd open my doors to see if I can brighten up someone's life.

I have 20+ years experience in many fields. They are framing, drywall (hanging/taping), light electrical, plumbing, siding, roofing, all areas landscaping including sprinkler systems. I have experience in website design/creation and I know all the in's and out's with getting a business online and profiting.

If you would like to speak about a job or have questions, please contact me here and I'll get back with you as soon as possible.
